We discussed our current understanding of academic writing and journal publication. Most of us have written academic papers for assignments, but not for publication. We were curious about how the process works, what makes an article accepted, and how to overcome common challenges in writing a scientific article as novice writers like us.

Category 1 – Process (Steps in Writing a Scientific Article)
                    1. What are the main stages from the idea stage to publication in a scientific journal?
                    2. How do authors choose the appropiate journal to submit their articles to?
                    3. What are some common mistakes that often occur during the submission or revision process?

Category 2 – Quality (Characteristics of a High-Quality Scientific Article)
                    1. What makes a research article stand out in the eyes of reviewers or editors?
                    2. How can authors ensure that their writing is of high quality and not merely imitating other research?
                    3. Why are articles rejected, especially those related to quality?

Category 3 – Challenges (Common Obstacles Faced by Writers and Their Solutions)
                    1. What strategies can help overcome writer’s block?
                    2. What are the challenges that novice writers typically face when writing a scientific article for official publication on a website or journal platform?
                    3. Do you have effective strategy, both in terms of time and effort, when facing major revisions in the creation of a research article?

Category 4 – Resources (Support, Media, or Tools Needed for Writing)
                    1. What digital tools are useful for finding research article references?
                    2. Are there any online platforms that support research article writing and collaboration?
                    3. What tools or platforms can help writers understand journal standards and formats?

                      1. Writing academic articles is very important for English Education students because it forces us to interact with precision and formality in academic writing. This encourages us to consume information and begin contributing new knowledge or providing critical analysis in our field. The journal finder I usually use is Google Scholar because it provides me with comprehensive articles. Sometimes I also search on Elsevier to find articles.
                      2. I have read two articles on reading comprehension for EFL students. The first article focuses on improving reading comprehension, while the second focuses on analysing problems in EFL students’ reading comprehension. Both articles examine students’ reading abilities but use different research methods.
                      3. I’d say that the Methodology section is often the most difficult part to fully understand, as there is data that needs to be read, especially in quantitative or mixed studies.
                      4. Reading journal articles is the best way to improve our academic writing skills because they provide authentic, high-quality examples of effective scientific communication.

                        1. The tittle is The Effect of Discovery Learning Method Towards Students’ Reading Comprehension on Analytical Exposition Text I read it while working on my proposal. I accessed the article on Google Scholar. After reading it, I felt that this article was very relevant to my proposal because the research focused on discovery learning, which was the same as my research topic.
                        2. What made reading this article memorable was the research aimed at determining whether discovery learning can improve students’ reading comprehension, and the results of the study showed significant results.
